Can you remain to us the story of Twelve Tribes ? Well, Twelve Tribes was formed in the summer of 1997. Adam (vox) and myself (Andrew, guitar) are the only two remaining original members from this line up. Kevin (guitar) joined the band in the fall of 2000. Shane (drums) joined in the summer of 2003. We recently lost our bass player Matt, but joined . . . sometime, hahaha. Twelve Tribes released two records on a South Florida label called Eulogy Recordings (Unearth, Evergreen Terrace, The Warriors) and two on New Jerseys Ferret Records.
I’d say the biggest musical influences we can collectively agree on would be, The Deftones, Pantera, Candiria, Bloodlet, and Faith No More. I mean, we all get into different things and can appreciate all sorts of different music and musicians even if everyone in the band isn’t all about them. Like Tool for instance, Kevin and Shane love that band, I personally could care less about them, but I’d still have to consider them an influence to our band, because of the rhythmic ideas they use, that the other dudes in 12 t pic up on you know?
I’d say that Twelve Tribes is dark, triumphant hardcore. That’s what we shoot for at least. A few tracks stray from this formula a bit and have an almost upbeat feel to them, but who wants a cd with 12 tracks that all sound the same?
Well, we took a year off from touring in order to write this record from fall of 2005 until spring 2006. We worked on writing songs that would translate in a live setting. Our previous record "The Rebirth of Tragedy" had some great tunes on it, but live . . . . the songs seemed to drag from time to time. So with this one, we worked on having, short, compact, energetic songs that would hype kids in a live show.
The recording sessions were kind of beat to be honest. We love Andreas (magnesson) who engineered the record, but his studio was in the hood and there wasn’t a lot to do, and it was a super fucking hot summer in Virginia. We also worked straight through without days off and were all super burnt by the end of the sessions. We are 100% happy with the outcome however, and maybe that stress added to the feel of the record.
That’s really more Adams department, but I know he gets a lot of his inspiration from watching tv, especially the news. I don’t have cable in my home, but when I DO watch tv, more often than not im just like . . . "Oh come the fuck on! Whos gonna buy this? Who cares about this?". Its enough o make anyone with ½ a brain upset.
Andreas was more an engineer than anything. We had all the songs written before we entered the studio and staryed very little from the original ideas. Andreas understood what we wanted which is super important though. But tonally and structurally he understood us from the beginning.
My fav track is the 5th song History Versus The Pavement. It just flows, and is energetic, but catchy at the same time. Its hard to write a song with off time parts and catchy chorus’s that actually sound like they should be in the same song.
I’d say Bloodlet - Entheogen, Overcast - Expectational Dillusions, Pantera – Far Beyond Driven, Earth Crisis – Destroy the Machines . . . . fuck man . . . I could go on and on. That’s just the heavy stuff you know? I listen to all sorts of music, it would be hard to name a favorite.
I’d say the tour with 36 crazyfists was one of the best 2 weeks of my life. We have a super close bond with the 4 of those guys as well as our mutual friend who was doing sound (Mark Sound) and tour managing. It was a fucking bro-deo from beginning to end, lots of partying, lots of drinking . . . just great vibes through and through.
We just finished a tour with Hatebreed and Unearth in Europe which was a lot of fun. Super good shows and great people. We also just accepted ANOTHER European tour with 36 Crazyfists in April which should be incredible. Other than that we’re not sure.
We have all sorts in sure. I stage dove once and no one caught me (which made our manager Howard from KSE hysterical). I had to run off stage in Paris France one time because I was about to shit myself. Our bass player fell on stage once within the first 30 seconds of a set in a big ass sold our room in New Jersey. I’m sure I could think of plenty more. They are mostly horror stories about our van breaking down. Our bus broke down this last trip. We had to load all our gear in this tiny ass coach and drive with it all on our laps from Manchester to London.
