INTERVIEW WRITTEN BY Fabio "Thunder" (guitar and vocals) and Omar Roncalli (Bass)
Can you tell us more about your new album called « As We Die Alone » ? FABIO: Ok.The title album is "As We Die Alone": It contains 10 tracks plus a very heavy and dark version of "Voodoo Chile" (Slight Return) by Jimi Hendrix. The studio is the same of previous albums, "New Sin Studio" in Loria (Italy) and the producer are the band and Luigi Stefanini, the sound engineer of the studio.Artwork is not a a painting but a picture photo-elaborated of a river.
OMAR: This is our 4th album at New Sin Studio and we know the sound engineer and he exactly knows what we want. The studio is pretty small and far from "temptations". Inside there’s a mix between ultimate technology and analogical equipments. We spent so many time on arrangements and sound quality. The sound is one of the "keys" of Thunderstorm’s composition. We listened and listened many times tracks, focusing on smallest vibe. The only problem was picking up from our many ideas.
FABIO: Thunderstorm songs born with a
very "natural process".
OMAR- As you could understand, I take inspiration on everyday life. I can’t remember a sentence that sounds like this: "life is stranger than the strangest fantasy", so I just take a look around comparing with what I’ve got inside. I don’t think I’m a poet, I’m just a storytellers. Maybe, a bit "strange". The spell of music is done, when right lyrics find right notes. This is the perfect chemistry. There are no "good" or "bad" lyrics, there is just "right" lyrics. I want to mention just a man called Rasputin: a really strange character . When I listened to the story of this strange man, I said on my own "I had to do a song about him!". His life is unbelievable… just a word can describe it: DOOM and here we are with "mad monk".
FABIO: In my opinion "As We Die Alone" is a big step forward respect
previous releases: There's a great songs like "We Dream As We Die" and
"I Wait" where the style of the band is changing to be more more deep
and melodic but not "commercial". With new album we're escape from the
classic "cliche'" of doom-metal like Black Sabbath, Candlemass ect. ect.
The sound is becoming very personal, not a simply clone of historic
bands.
FABIO: Cover was created by Marco
Riva, the official photographer of the band (and the very very first
drummer of the band!)
FABIO: my favourite song is "I Wait" This track have a special feeling, I can’t describe…it’s a kind of….magic! But I like very much "We Die as We Dream (Alone) and "Hawking Radiation", the open track of CD.
FABIO: Oh, the international metal scene is good for now: They’re lot a good bands, without doubt! Yes, it’s a good time for metal now!
FABIO: Oh, No particular anecdote to tell: Everything we go to play in a good stage or everything we go to enter in the recording studio are a great experience for us!
FABIO Oh yes: Will we play some gigs like "Release parties" first days of April: For now the confirmed in Germany are: Kutter4ever Fest at "Headbanger Ballrom" in Hamburg, Heike Music Club at Crailsheim and Metropolis Music Hall (Kultfabrik) in Munich.
