Interview Swashbuckle

Can you tell us more about your new album called « Back To The Noose?

Admiral Nobeard: It’s a fun, fast, aggressive, balls to the wall metal record. It’s got stories of piratical lore, tales of imbibing rum and grog, death defying battles with hellacious sea-beasts, blistering metal moshing mayhem and pantie-dropping sea-shanties. What more could ye ask for!

Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?

AN: For the recording of "Back to the Noose," it took a bit longer than expected. We re tracked drums about 3 times until it sounded killer and was played awesome, after that the process moved along pretty damned fast. Len Carmichael from Sound of Revolution Studios did a killer job on engineering the record, without him it wouldn’t sound as awesome as it does. Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal came in towards the end of the record to do some additional production on the drums and give it a bit more open sound, and also lay down some killer guest solos. Ron’s been a good friend of ours for a couple years now, we think nothing but the best of him. Awesome dude, killer guitarist, totally loves knit beanie caps.

How did you proceed for the composition ?

AN: We started writing the album during the recording of our first record "Crewed by the Damned ". So, some of these songs we’ve been sitting on and refining for a year or two until we made them awesome to our ears.

Who created the artwork ?

AN: A killer artist named Adam Vehige. He also did the art for the first record "Crewed by the Damned," so it just felt right asking him to do "Back to the Noose ". Dude does killer work, we hope to keep using his works in the future.

What’s your favourite track on « Back To The Noose » and why ?

AN: Splash-n-Thrash. It’s just fast, heavy and has some killer stomp riffs, plus piratical lyrical shenanigans.

Did you film a promotional video ?

AN: Aye, indeed we did. We filmed a video for "Cruise Ship Terror." Ye can check it out on our website, or the tube of you! David Brodsky, who has done videos for Kataklysm, Arsis, and Black Dahlia Murder, directed and edited it. He did a fine job and partook in our piratical shenanigans.

What are your favourite bands and all times albums ?

AN: Ahhh lets see…..

S.O.D. – Speak English or Die, Anthrax – Among the Living,  Megadeth – Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying, Kreator – Extreme Aggression, Rage – Reflections of a Shadow, Death – Symbolic, King Diamond – Them, Iron Maiden – Killers, Judas Priest – Painkiller, Bolt Thrower - …For Victory, Morbid Angel – Domination, there’s a bunch more, but I’d be listing all day long.

What are your touring plans ?

AN: We’ll be coming around on the Paganfest Euro tour in Sept., we’ll be doing tours in the US and Canada after that, and we’ll be back in Europe early 2010. We’ll be touring as long as we can and as much as we can.

Do you have funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

AN: Every day is a funny and strange happening with this band. Ye just need to come to a show to partake in it.

What are your projects for the future ?

AN: We will continue being piratical as fuck and thrashing hard.

And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show called Metal Choc ?

AN: Listen to Metal Choc, or we pirates will fuck yar mothers!
