Interview Sonic Syndicate

Can you tell the readers a bit about the band's history ?

It started off in 2000 actually. Me, Roger, Robin and a couple of class matest started somewhat of a cover band that evolved to a power metal / heavy metal hybrid sort of band. Got bored of that shit so we three left and founded a new project in 2003. Recruited a drummer, bassist and keyboard player. And named ourself Fallen Angels. Unfortunately all of the other guys sucked so we was forced to find new musicians this is where Karin, John came in. Also we squeezed a little midget keyboardist into a box so it would be easier to travel with him, his name is backtrack! We also added Roland to the line-up since we wanted two singers both for the dynamic and his awesome clean vocal mad skills.
Another misfortune was our name Fallen Angels, obviously five billion other bands found this name to there liking so we decided we wanted a little more unique approach to our band name so Sonic Syndicate seemed pretty tasty! We released our debut album in the summer of 2005 on a new founded American label called Pivotal Rockordings (http://label.pivotalalliance.com) and named the debut after our dog "Eden fire". In 2006 we signed a deal with Nuclear blast and and recorded our upcoming album which is yet to be released! There you go, a fast overview of the history of the band.

What are your biggest influences ?

I canīt really point out any direct inspiration sources, we listen to so much music and is affected by so many different medias everyday itīs ridiculous. In all this noise of course you get inspired but I have no really idea by what, itīs just there in the back of your head. The common joint in the band during the time we wrote "Only Inhuman" is probably Soilwork, Killswitch engage, All that remains, Bullet for my valentine, As I lay dying and bands alike.

You signed with Nuclear Blast, can you tell us more ?

Since we got signed to NB everything have just accelerated in terms of success beyond our wildes dreams. They totally share our vision of where we wanna go with Sonic Syndicate and opened many doors for us. We used to be a pretty anonymous band, until NB picked us up and slapped us right in the face of everyone with there brilliant promotion work. The 20 years in the business sure shows off on this label.

Can you speak to us about your new album called " Only Inhuman " ?

"Only inhuman" is a dynamic music journey through 11 tracks that will instantly bite your brain and simply wonīt go until you played the CD so many times your Hi-Fi system cave in! Itīs a ballanced alliance between the Swedish melodic metal and the American metal/hardcore which kinda grew to be our identity in our music. Awsome guitar work combined with dynamic keyboard carpets, pounding drums and energic dual vocal compositions ranging from gutt turning growls to beatiful clean melodies. On top of all this itīs very attractive to almost any listeners seeing the band is really open minded as well when it comes to music and we never limit ourself to certain stubborn rules.

Who is responsible for song writing and how did you proceed for the composition ?

Our main song writer is Roger, he composed every single track pretty much. But of course the whole band is very involved as well when we start to reherse the songs in the reharsal room. Everyone comes up with ideas and adjustments and we pretty much try everything. I write the lyrics and make the core of the vocal arrangments, show my ideas to Roland and explain his parts. As we reharse he devlop and color them his way and all this sums up into a new song. Of course all sort of adjustments is made on the way to the studio.

Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?

Well it was a very basic studio session with a very extrodinary man behind the levers namley Jonas Kjellgren guitarist of Scar Symmetry. It was recorded in Black Longue studio in Avesta / Sweden which is Jonas own studio. He took the best out of us and made us have a really good time along the road.

What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?

Actually the lyrics is really my life story. All the events in my life eather itīs good or bad is compressed to some lines of texts also all the people I meet and interact with that leaves a impression could be characters in my lyrics. I used to write up huge stories to craft my lyrics around but nowdays Iīm all out writing about the ups and downs in my life its like a time line or diary really. Also it feels more natural to sing something that you really meen and actually have experienced. "Only Inhuman" is mainly about the long road back from a bad and infected relation and all the people that got there heart torn apart for caring about the wrong guy along the road. Obviously I find inspiration in my everyday life hehe.

What are your favourite songs out of this new album? And what makes them so special for you ?

Thereīs not a single song I donīt like or that Iīm not proud of but if you insist haha
First out "Double Agent 616" it was kinda different from what we tried before vocal wise and it turned out pretty cool, also the lyrics have a pretty, well maby not fun but peculiar story behind them.
Next up I guess is "Denied" where I also worked very different from what I used to when I wrote the lyrics / vocal arrangment and I guess.
Last out is Aftermath that is like the bridge from our debut album and this one lyric wise, also itīs a brilliant introduction song seeing it give you a tastey of everything that you will be offered in Sonic Syndicates music.

What's your opinion about the international metal scene ?

Well I mean there always good music and bad music and I guess metal isnīt a exception but overall I like the current metal scene. Also what I respect most is that a lot of bands put some effort into trying to be essentric and walking different roads than every other band out there already have.

Do you have any funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

How we picked up Karin in the band Is a pretty funny story, first of all as I mentioned in the short band history we used to have a bassist that wasnīt really ace at his instrument. So he actually got kicked from the band, guess it was a bit harsh but we couldnīt let that effect the music really. So our little serach-for-a-new-bass-player campaign took off. Some weekends after, me and Roger got shit faced in propper order and ended up on a local night club. Where we just randomly asked people, or well actually accused people of being good bass players and insisted that they should join the band. 99% of them was eather scared or to drunk to recall what we said I guess until we came to this girl that just said "-Yeah for sure, when do I start?". The day after we tried her skills in the reharsal room and since that she was a member of Sonic Syndicate.

Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ?

There are vague plans of a tour after the summer nothing confirmed yet unfortunatly.

What are your projects for the future ?

Well we are already writing a follow up to "Only Inhuman". But I guess on top on our prio list now is to spread the word about the band and do as much press, gigs, promotion that is possible for a human being, or a inhuman I donīt know haha

And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show Metal Choc ?

I guess im suppose to say something like; Pick up the new album and listen to it till your ears bleed! But actually I wonīt! Iīll just sum this up with "I love creps!"
