Interview Onslaught

After 15 years of silence, you’ve just recorded a new album called «killing peace ». Can you tell us more about this album ?

Yeah, its the album we always should have made, but never did.... Its raw, brutal and angry... Old school thrash metal but with a modern tone... There are no long intros, no ballads, no pretty guitars, no bullshit, just pure 100% in your face metal...

Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?

This is the quickest that onslaught have ever taken to make a record, just 18 days in total... Recording the album was a breeze for us and a very cool experience. Things have changed massively in the way things are recorded nowadays, it suited us just fine and andy sneap was great in his production of killing peace..

How did you proceed for the composition ?

We totally changed the writing process for this album, the entire album was written in the rehearsal room under the guidance of the whole band. Everybody had input on the music that was being created. I think that helped enormously in making this album so easy to write... Killing peace is also the quickest we have ever written and album, it was very spontaneous..

What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?

Its not difficult to find inspiration for lyrics in this fucked up world, i haven't wrote lyrics for a long time, so i gotta lot say about a lot of things. Some bad shit has happened in the last 15 years, all fuel for lyrical fire...... Religion is my biggest greivance, religion to those who believe is meant to be some kind of peaceful solace, but all it does is create hate and war and world war 3 beckons.... All the lyrics on the album are fact, based on stuff i have been reading about, drug abuse, mass murder and physical abuse, this is a bad fuckin place..

Who created the artwork ?

The cover artwork was designed by the band, we tried to keep the power from hell concept and bring it upto date, we want people to know this is an onslaught record just by looking at the sleeve.. The inner artwork is amazing and was designed by a very good friend of ours 'jeff williams'.

For you, what are the biggest differences between this new album and the previous

I'd like to think this album is a natural follow on from 'the force' album, its very distant from 'sanity' which was too clean and polished, this record is all about an angry sound and hi-energy.. Lyrically the themes are similar but with much more depth...

What’s your favourite track on « killing peace » and why ?

I think 'burn' is my favourite track if i had to choose, tho it's a hard choice... It's fast, heavy and very dark sounding, with some cool hooks... A typical onslaught track, with a great intro..

What are your favourite bands and all times albums ?

Discharge is my favourite band / hear nothing see nothing say nothing' is my favourite album

What's your opinion about the international metal scene ?

The scene in europe is very good i think and getting better all the time, i cant really comment on america, but i hear good things and bad things about it, all i know its been great for us since we came back....

Can you remember your first gig ? How did it go ?

Yeah, i remember our first gig, it was in a local bar, it was absolutely packed out, after 4 songs a fight between 2 girls broke out and the gig was over.. It was cool while it lasted..

Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ?

We are currently planning some dates right now and we are booked onto some festivals. I think we're gonna sit back and see what happens with the record before committing to too much, we would like to try and land a cool support tour, that would be the perfect plan..

Do you have funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

Ha, lots, but i think i would probably get into some serious trouble if i were to tell you them...... Most of them occur after massive amounts of alcohol.....

What are your projects for the future ?

We wanna play a lot of shows to support this album and let the world know we are back.. We have already began writing the follow up album to killing peace, and its sounding fucking great.. So we're gonna be real busy...

And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show called Metal Choc ?

I'd just like to say thanks to all our fans out there and i hope you enjoy the new album...
Onslaught will be coming to play to you guys soon.... Thrash on...!!!!!!!
