Interview Obed


 





Can you tell the readers a bit about the band's history ?

Well, you should know, that Obed started to make music in the year 2002. At the beginning Obed had a lot of Nu-Metal Hardcore influences and our current vocalist was DJ in Obed for a time. He and his brother Andres one of our guitarist started the band. We changed a lot of members during the time and changed progressively our style and we were totally formed in the year 2007 with Diego as Vocalist, our two guitarists Andres and Juan Carlos, drummer Ivan and Maximilian as bassist.


What are your biggest musical influences ?

Well, is not easy speak about that, we have many influencies, the principal influences are Extol, Black Dahlia Murder, Lamb of God, Arch enemy, Narnia, Mortification, In flames, Soilwork, Soul embraced, Lengsel, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Amon Amarth, Dark tranquility, Miseration, Children of Bodom, Opeth, The Haunted, God Forbid, Scar Symmetry, Jazz and Blues artist…


Can you speak to us about your EP called « Collect The Souls » ?

Well we´re very proud of our EP "Collect the souls" we worked a lot on it, and almost everything on ourselfs. The artwork was made by friends, the recording and master of this EP in NewSound Studio by a friend too. We think that the end product is pretty cool and we´re happy to present it. The main-idea of this EP is to search for a label in Europe.


How did you proceed for the composition ?

We met a lot of times composing in Maximilian’s and Ivan’s apartment cause both of them own a drumset. After we came up with the new ideas for songs we put some lyrics on it and practiced them in New Sound Studio. The Intro of "Collect the Souls" was a quick "Jam" which resulted cool so we put it in.


What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?

Well as a christian band we have almost all our inspiration in our faith in God, we´re inspired by the moment and write down what we feel. We want to send a message not only to christians, our message is to everybody, so that our lyrics help christians and no-christians, everybody can see it with different eyes and thats what we want them to. Generally our lyrics are about spiritual wars, or against the stereotypes of this world.


What about the recording process?

Well, in the studio many changes, you can hear the songs before and after the recording and not the same thing, we can change solos and armonies of guitars and bass, and changes in voices... it was fun too...


Who created the artwork ?

Our Artwork and T-shirt Design were made by Insania Design Bogota, we want to thank him a lot for this amazing work.


Any plans for a record deal ?

In this moment we are seeking label, soon we have travel to Germany first, for EuroTour 2008 with the agency Insano Booking, we hope sign soon with an any label, no matters if is Independent Label or Mayor Label.


What's your opinion about the international metal scene ?

The international metal scene is hard to explain, we think that every metal genre has its positive and negative parts...and i think in the worldwide metal scene there is something for every human on earth if its soft or hard...it depends on the situation. Metal is not only music its a culture, if its a rythmfull metal like soulfly or more hardcore stuff from the USA or melodic stuff from Northern Europe...every country has a band to be proud of and every band is part of the Metal Evolution and this will never change, thats why Metal is so great.


What are your favourite bands and all times albums ?

Ummm, hard question... we are diferents musical tastes.
Miasma-Black Dahlia Murder, Shadows are security-As i lay Dying, Pitch black progress-Scar Symmetry, Doomsday machine-Arch Enemy, Clayman-In flames, Blackwater Park-Opeth and more albums


Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ?

Yeah.. we are so happy for the European Tour in 2008.. we will play in many cities in Europe, soon we post the complete dates of Tour...


Do you have funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

Strange storie: it’s history as we knew ourselves with Max... Diego has a company that is called FireStudio and in Max was bought t-shirts to Diego, with time we need a new bass player and Diego published in Firestudio a Flyer with BASS PLAYER AUDITION , Max presented the Audition and now he’s a Bass Player of Obed..


What are your projects for the future ?

We have big plans with Obed. Sign with a big powerful Label. Share our Band with the world, record our album...and i think the most important thing...being the idol for many people in the world in a positive way, thats a long process but we all are
