Interview Norma Jean

How would you describe your music in your own words ?

It sounds like shark riding on a t-rex's back just trampling and eating everything they see ... but sometime a unicorn appears and jumps over a rainbow ... after that he is eaten by the shark.

Can you tell us more about your new album called "Redeemer" ?

Yes ... we wanted to make a high energy heavy rock record and that's what we did i think. the whole experience through writing and everything was very spontaneous and natural. It will eat your babies if you leave it with them to baby sit.

Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?

Recording lasted for two months. the 1st month was in weed, california. and we spent another month at Ross's house doing vocals and stuff. We
learned a lot during these times including the fact that chris will do anything for money.

What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?

The whole record is very personal lyrically. we all collaborated on most of the lyrics as a band, and really dug in deep. We have songs about losing people close to you, depression and hope, our words and what we do with them ... there is no general theme really though.

This album was produced by Ross Robinson. Can you tell us more about it ?

Yeah, Ross is an amazing person ... beyond his ability to work with music and bring out something different in every band. he just an all around great dude and was very patient with us. we learned a lot from him. he really brought out the intention behind our music and altogether it madethe record more exciting.

What's your favourite track on "Redeemer" and why ?

No favorites really.

What are your favourite bands and all times albums ?

There are tons... too many to name. but if i HAD to. i love Helmet, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Toadies, Fugazi, Nirvana etc ...

How do you prepare yourselves either mentally or physically before you enter on stage ?

We pray, we stretch out, jump up and down, high fives everywhere, yelling a lot. Just getting real excited before we jump into it. it's just like with anything in life ... we warm up first and that way the crowd doesn't have to watch it happen ... it's just insane right out of the gate.

You played with a lot of bands. What are your best memories ?

SOOO many. i have loved MOST of the tour we have done. There is really only one that i can think of that wasn't that much fun ... and i dont really wanna talk about it.

Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ?

We're on a full US and Canada tour now. in january we will be overseas in the UK and Europe and after that its pretty wide open. everyone should check out www.myspace.com/normajean or www.normajeannoise.com for upcoming dates in your area SOON !

Do you have funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

We have random dance parties that break out ... out of nowhere ...  we play 80's booty rap in our bus and laugh and do dumb dances ... we're not cool.

What are your projects for the future ?

Tour a lot ... we plan on a break this summer. we'd like to start writing really early for the next release and just play a lot of cool shows.

And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show called Metal Choc ?

Metal choc? I love metal choc ... more than not metal choc.
