First, thanks for having accept to answer these some questions. Thanks to you for the interest! I’m Andrea Tito, the bass player, and it will be a pleasure to answer your questions. Your new album called « Stainless » will be released on June 13th. Can you tell us more about this album ? Sure! It will be a 60-minutes album in our own distinctive style, which is 100% HEAVY METAL. In it you will find many different atmospheres, and also some new marginal elements which have been introduced to keep the music always fresh and enjoyable: some violin parts, some special effects, a little bit of piano and some female vocals. Everything blends perfectly in our own classic heavy metal style, giving different atmospheres to the 10 tracks of the album, which keeps on punding from the first to the last minute. Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ? This time we’ve had the chance to record our new album in a very proper and relaxed way. This, because of the fact that we have used our own recording studio, so we had all the time in the world to play our parts, prepare all the arrangements, and take care of the sound and every single little detail in the best possible way. This opportunity differs a lot from the usual "3-weeks of full immersion" which normally a band with our budgets can get from their label. I think that you can immediately hear this difference from the first time the CD in your player. This album was produced by Giovanni Spinotti. Can you tell us more about it ? Besides being a very nice bloke, he’s a very experienced and talented sound-engineer: he has taken care of the production of the last two CDs of Labyrinth, another very respected italian metal band, and we really appreciated his work. We really got along well with him, and he showed us a lot of tricks while recording, and gave us a lot of very useful advices. How did you proceed for the composition ? Who is responsible for song writing ? The music for 7 tracks out of 10 were written by myself, while the other 3 have been penned by Piero, the guitar player. Lirically-wise, we always divide the duty of writing lyrics between Folco, Piero, and myself. Said this, you have to consider that there is a lot of teamwork while writing the songs, so all the five of us give their contribution to the creation and the arrangements of every song. This method may take a lot of time, actually, but it’s the only way to get everyone satisfied with final result. What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ? We have always had many different inspirations for our lyrics, and this is something which I’m somehow proud of: are lyrics are very different one from another, and in my opinion that’s something which is able to keep the album interesting in tis entirety. Doing a track-by-track overview: "The Burn" is a science fiction story about the implosion of the Sun and the consequences on the other planets; "Bitter Crop" uses the metaphor of the reaping to talk about the troubles of relationships; "Princess Of The Wolves" takes inspiration from the japanese anime "Princess Mononoke", to give a precise ecology message; "Triumph of the Darksword" is about the third book of the Darksword fantasy trilogy by Tracy Hickman & Margaret Weis (we have already written in our previous records two songs inspired by the first two books); "Windchaser" is a folk-like song about how to live your life in full without wasting any moment of it; "Field of Heroes" is a story about heroes and how the crowd worship them then forget them; "Hot Lead Cold Steel", inspired by the movie "The Last Samurai" with Tom Cruise; "Lure of the Temptress" is about the temptations of sin and its inevitable consequences; "Bloody Mary" takes inspiration by a comic book by Garth Ennis about a killer nun with a terrible secret; "Impossible Infinity" is about a love story which goes beyond life, death, troubles and everything. What's your favourite track on « Stainless », and why ? My favourite track of the album is the closing one, a 10-minutes suite which is quite unusual for us, called "Impossible Infinity". I wrote the music and lyrics for it, but Piero gave a lot of his own for this track, creating all of the keyboard arrangements, which in the end turned out as a really huge work. Anyway, I choose this track as my favourite, not just because it’s very different from our usual stuff, having a lot of changes in terms of tempo and atmospheres, making it a really "mesmerizing" track, but especially because of its lyrical contents, which are very personal to me, and very introspective in a way. How would you describe your music in your own words ? I may sound predictable, but the best definition that comes to my mind is: 100% HEAVY METAL!!! So, if you like powerful music with a massive guitar wall of sound, a bombastic rhythm section and the incredible voice of Folco Orlandini, one of the best italian metal singers of all time, you’ll surely appreciate our new album "STAINLESS"! JWhat are your biggest musical influences ? Talking about myself, I cannot deny that there are some evident influences in the way I play my bass and write songs, and it would be almost impossible to hide them. IRON MAIDEN and STEVE HARRIS are my biggest influences, as a band and a bass player, and I have grown up listening to their music, so they are an undeniable part of myself. I must add that I feel quite lucky to have the chance to lpay the same kind of music that I love, which is classic heavy metal! What are your favourite bands and all times albums ? As I told you, Iron Maiden over all, but also Helloween, Dio, Anthrax, Megadeth, Gamma Ray, Bruce Dickinson (as a solo artist), and recently I’m very fond of Audioslave. If I had to mention my 5 all-times-favourite albums I would choose the following: IRON MAIDEN – Live After Death BRUCE DICKINSON – Accident Of Birth HELLOWEEN – Keeper Of The Seven Keys GAMMA RAY – No World Order MEGADETH – Countdown To Extinction What’s your opinion about the Italian and the International metal scene ? Well, there is an incredibly huge number of bands around, both in Italy and abroad, and not all of them are that good, honestly speaking. Anyway I think that there is space for everybody, and the more bands around, the more the possibility to get to hear good music! Of course, since there are so many bands around, the space for every single one gets reduced every day…. Probably only the bands which are good and have something interesting to say will get the space they deserve! Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ? Yes, we are already planning the shows to promote properly the release of "STAINLESS". In a couple of weeks we will have a big concert here in Milano where we will be headlining, and it will be the real presentation of the new CD to the public (since right now it still hasn’t been released!). Then we will partecipate to a couple of big festivals in Italy this summer: we will play with Labyrinth in Venice this July, and also with Freedom Call and Mayhem this August. Then, in September we will start a real tour, playing all around Italy, and also some gigs abroad: we have currently already planned a couple of gigs in Germany for October. Let’s hope this is just a start…. Because we love to play concerts, and we would keep on doin git forever! Do you have funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ? Well, yes…. A funny thing regarding the cover of our CD. After a lot of computer-based elaborations on metal surfaces and stuff like that, we were not completely satisfied about the final result. We wanted to have a "REAL" stainless impact, very strong and direct…. Said this, the photo of the cover is nothing else than the bottom of a pot taken from Folco’s kitchen! When we had a look at this we immediately thought "FANTASTIC!" ….That was really the image that we were looking for! What are your projects for the future ? Well, for the immediate future, we are working a lot on the promotion, doing a huge numebr of interviews, and spreading the word on the new album… then, in a month we will start with the best part of it, which is playing live!! As I told you, this time we want to play the biggest number of gigs around, and we‘re really looking forward to it! If there will be any chance to come there in France and play live, we won’t miss this opportunity! Please keep always an eye open on our website www.mesmerize.it for further information! And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show called Metal Choc ? Well, sure I can! If you want I can send you an MP3 file of my voice saying something funny (or at least trying to do it!). Otherwise, my words are: RUST WHEN YOU’RE DEAD! But right now get a listen to our new CD "STAINLESS"!! Thanks for your time, bye!
