Can you remain to us the story of Martriden ? Martriden started with Will and Shane dinking around learning metal songs together, and gradually blossomed into writing our own music and here we are.
Yeah sure. The Unsettling Dark is an album that encompasses everything that had been influencing us that entire year prior to recording it. It’s the culmination of a year’s worth of compositions into 45 minutes of music.
Not a whole lot to say about the sessions, we recorded a lot, ate a lot of Mexican food, had some good brews. Played super Nintendo.
We spent about 9 months to a year writing the songs..basically rough drafts. With literally zero time spent jamming. We write parts, we learn them. And once we got to the studio we embellished on ideas and added zazz.
The lyrics in each song tell a story, sometimes of an event or occurrence that is happening to it’s protagonist and in some songs it pertains to an internal struggle he/she is having. Obvious inspirations for our lyrics are other band’s in the black metal community, as well as death metal...doom metal lyrics are also very inspirational as well as poetry, specifically the poetry of Arthur Rimbaud in the case of "The Unsettling Dark".
Yeah, I think we were most productive when we got drunk and made egg salad sandwiches until 3 am the night before we went into the studio. Dave loved those sandwiches.
Pär Olofsson
My favourite track? I don’t know. Probably the Title track I guess. I’m more interested in the overall feel of the whole album.
There’s one in the works, pretty low budget. For Ascension 1 and 2.
Opeth – My Arms, Your Hears Opeth – Still Life Emperor – Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk Enslaved – Monumension Enslaved – Mardraum Death – Symbolic Death – Individual Thought Patterns Plus others.
WE’re working on booking a tour this summer.
I stabbed Shane through the hand with a broadsword...is that funny? I laughed.
