Interview Machinemade God

Can you speak to us about your debut album called " The Infinity Complex " ?

Our debut album contains 13 tracks full of energy, anger, beauty, heavieness and brutal breakdowns. Each song is different without losing the typical sound that we create. So all in all youīll get an album which doesnīt sound repetitive or boring at all.

How did you proceed for the composition ?

We had enough time with the songwriting, cause there was no label deal and with that no deadline for a release date. So all in all it was pretty relaxed.

Who is responsible for songwriting ?

Sky and Holger (both guitar) are responsible for the basic song structures cause they come up with the riffs. When the basic structure is given, we all work on the finetuning and the arrangements togther. When all of us are satisfied with the result and when we all think that this is a song everyone of us could stand behind, we take it. Iīm writing the lyrics and try to arrange them to the songs.

What are the lyrics talking about and where do you find inspiration ?

Most of the lyrics are about personal experiences I made with relationships, friendship, family and certain stuff that happened in my life. Iīd say that life itself is my inspiration.

What are your biggest musical influences ?

We all listen to a lot of different music. Of course our hearts are beating for hardcore and metal, but we are pretty open-minded when it comes up to different music genres so itīs hard to name bands that have inspired us. We try to avoid sounding like special bands or to copy riffs.

Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to Machinemade God ?

Sky has some other projects he works for every now and then, for example he did some additional guitar work on the new caliban album. Heīs also doing something really different compared to MMG, more stoner-rock orientated. Max has a Ska-Combo and if Iīm right he also plays free-jazz. Iīm working on a Punk-Rock-project, but thereīs nothing set up yet. I also did some electronic-stuff, more ambient sounding music.

What's your favourite track on this album, and why ?

Kiss me now, kill me later, I like the insane breakdown in the middle and the crowbar-like ending.

What are your favourite all times bands and albums ?

There are so many bands out there and there have been so many important bands out there that most of the kids today havenīt even heard of. Itīs sad that kids nowadays donīt know bands like Gorilla Biscuits, Integrity or Cro-Mags and it seems that they donīt even show enough interest in finding out where all their favorite bands from today got their roots. Anyways, itīs hard for me to chose one or two all-time bands, but I think Iīd go for the Misfits (everything, and yeah I dig the new stuff as well, evethough itīs not the same), Unbroken-Life, Love, Regret and Iron Maiden - Killers.

You played with bands like As I Lay Dying, Cataract, Caliban, God Forbid etc…What are your best memories ?

All these shows have been pretty good for us and all these bands are killer! We became good friends with the guys in As I Lay Dying and always have been friends with Caliban and Cataract. I think itīs always good to share the stage with people that you like and respect.

What's your opinion about the international metal scene ?

In my eyes the scene for hard, extreme music in general grew a lot within the past few years. Hardcore and Metal have always existed but never been that popular. Itīs definatly good for bands, cause you can spread your name easier that a couple years ago. The only thing that needs to happen is that all those people within the scene start acting like they are in a scene. All those people who have been in the scene for years complain about the newbies and how they have no background and attitude. And all those new kids arenīt interested in influences, in "back-in-the-days-stories" and so on…But if I m right itīs always been like that, there are people working their asses off and there are those who complain. Just stay open-minded and try to come along, itīs just about the music!

Do you have any funny or strange stories about the band you can share with us ?

Well, not really…the only thing tat might be funny was last show when I jumped off of the monitor-box. Unfortunatly Sky rose his guitar up in the same moment and my feet got stuck in his cable and I fell on my back. I kept singing and stood up…I gess it looked pretty weird. The funny thing about this is, that I was makin fun of Sven, cause he almost fell off the stage the show before and I was like: "dude, something like this shouldnīt happen"….so yeah what goes around, comes around, huh?!

What are your projects for the future ?

Weīre playing as many shows as possible…first new and confirmed dates are already on our website. But thereīs more to come, make sure to check our site every now and then to get the latest dates. Weīre working on a tour right now, but nothing confirmed yet.
And in the spare time we start writing new material…

And finally, can you say some words for my radio show Metal Choc ?

Thank you for the interview and all the best for you and the whole METAL CHOC RADIO-staff. Never lose the fun in what youīre doing!! <3
