| Can you tell the readers a bit
about the band's history ? We got started when Kahl, our former bass player, and I met Jonne at a midsummer party in 2000. We’d left our previous projects behind and were looking for a fresh start with a new band. For the first two years all we did was make songs and release them online. Word spread fast and when we finally started playing live, 2 out of our 4 first gigs were abroad (London and Helsinki), and none of them in our own home town. We skipped the whole « local band » thing, in other words. In the years that followed we kept making songs, released a lot of them online as well as recorded 2 studio albums on our own. Now our website’s had over 3 million unique downloads, we have signed a record deal with Spinefarm, and things are looking very positive.
A lot of of metal bands like Megadeth and System of a Down, some Swedish and American punk rock, and a lot of video game music, old-school as well as contemporary. We have a pretty wide range of influences among all the members in the band, and I think it shows in our music.
Oh, it’s awesome. We’re very proud of it. We recorded it ourselves on practically no budget and now it’s been revamped in one of Sweden’s top metal studios in Gothenburg into a full-scale professional release.
We did most of it together, though I write all the lyrics. We usually just build from a cool idea, be it some synth part, a guitar riff or a few lines of lyrics.
It’s everything from life stuff to politics, even though we try hard to keep the later out of our lyrics as much as possible. Inspiration is everywhere, from everything that happens, from serious stuff to games and movies.
It changes from day to day, depending on my mood. Right now, I’m leaning towards Oki Kumas Adventure.
Poe has a pet project called Slideshow. They play « action » rock.
A few of the ones I can’t live without are « Otep - Sevas Tra », « System of a Down - Mezmerize », « Propagandhi - Potemkin City Limits », « RX Bandits - The Resignation » and « NoFX - War on Errorism ».
I’m glad to be part of it. I think there’s a lot of good stuff out there, for any taste in music. Sure, there are perhaps more bands than ever that sound exactly alike these days, but even so I think that today’s metal scene has more to offer than it ever has before.
This time when we were driving through Sweden to a gig in the south, Tomas fell asleep with a chocolate bar in his back pocket. Needless to say, it got pretty squashed and warm, so when he woke up and tried to get rid of it it really looked like he was just sitting there trying to scrape away warm poo from the car seat and his pants. I have it on video... Somewhere. ;)
Nothing definite, but I know the people at Spinefarm have us in mind should the opportunity appear. They already tried once getting us hooked up with a bigger band for a European tour in January, but it didn’t pan out. Hopefully, something like that will happen in 2007.
We’re already working on our next album, so I guess that’s next apart from gigs and hopefully touring. I’d love to make a music video, too, but there hasn’t been any talk of that yet.
