Can you remain to us the story of Lowdown ? We started out in 2000 and got our
record deal with black balloon records after our second gig! Released
the album "unknown" in 2003 and spent the following years playing
several gigs in Norway. Early this year we went in the studio again at
Space Valley and recorded our follow up "Antidote" that is gonna set the
standard for the new breed of metal. Lowdown is coming your way! What are your biggest musical influences ? We listen to all sorts of music in our band, but mainly metal yes. I have to say we all have a common likeness to bands like Pantera, Machine head, Sepultura and newer stuff like Lamb of God, devil driver and Chimaira.
Hard, brutal and in your face!
This time around we perfected our own techniques, and just went for it, witch I think you can hear on this record. We wanted to make a varied record with lots of different sounding songs, from fast to slow and just chill acoustic stuff blended in a perfect mix. Almost every song was written in the last few months before we went in the studio, mainly because we work best under pressure.
We recorded the album at Space Valley Studio in a wasteland outside the capitol of Norway called Hamar. 30 minutes to the nearest store and just a perfect place to be fully concentrated on the job. Working with Zet (studio owner) was great cause he’s like us, just laid back and no stress. Did the recording over a few weeks earlier this year and went to Sweden to Daniel Bergstrand (producer of In flames, Meshuggah etc) and mixed it. It was great seeing this guy work, he’s such a pro and just watching him do his stuff was amazing. And it turned out just great we think.
You mean how we make songs? We are open for anything really, sometimes one of us records something at home and brings it to practice, other times it’s made entirely in rehersal. If the shit sounds good we’ll always use it in one way or another.
Inspiration is life. I would tell people to read them and make up their own minds. But you can definetly hear stuff like depression, some politics and drug stuff in there. Not like were promoting drugs in any way though! Sometimes words will just hit the paper, and I can read it later and go "shit, did I mean this" or "what did I mean" hehe
We got a great guy called Espen Geitsund witch has our homepage, did our artwork and promoshots. The guy is really talented and I would recommend him to anyone.
Personally it’s propably "The world has ended". It just got all I like in a song, the riffing, the cool chorus and the killer ending part.
We just went for it ourself. I (Leo) produced it, it took one week from the idea to we got the final cut on the table! I think for a low budget(or no budget) video it turned out great. The idea was one guy not realising that the world has ended and just keeps on going about his life. It was all shot in a condemned meat factory in some farm land in Norway.
For me it has to be Pantera "Vulgar display of power" and Rage against the machine’s first album. It set the tone for everything I listen for today.
Right now we’re doing gigs in Norway. We working to do Europe after new year, but nothings confirmed yet, but we WILL come! Anyone who knows anything that can help us out, please take contact! We are ready to to ANYTHING it takes to get our sound out there.
Lately we have had incredible trouble with band vehicles giving us shit. Just this weekend we were driving to Kristiansand for a gig, and we had a accident. The car did a 360 flip out of the road and all our gear flew out the backdoor. Amazingly no one got injured! But after a quick check at the hospital we were on the road again and had a great show that same night!
Right now we are just working on promoting the album and getting gigs everywhere we can. The dream is to do a world tour, a global metallization! One thing can I promise you, the next Lowdown album will be killer!!
First of all thank you very much for taking an interest in us, it’s greatly appreciated! I hope the French people will come to our show when we finally get over there and just set the standard for what a moshpit is all about. We set pride in giving a 1000%!! At every liveshow, and no one will leave the gig without a sore neck for at least a few days afterwards. I won’t be saying shit like go buy our album cause we fucking rock, but I would recomend you to take a listen to "antidote" when it hit the stores 16 october if you like your metal hard and presise. Or check out our website at www.lowdownmetal.com and check our music and videos there. Thanks a lot. LOWDOWN IS COMING YOUR WAY..
