For those totally unfamiliar with Insense, can you remain to us the story of the band ?

Insense started up in 99. We just wanted to create a great metal band that had all the elements that made metal so good in the early days. In 2001 we recorded our first album that got released by an American label called This dark reign. Now we are back with a new album called “soothing torture” out on Black Balloon Records with the strongest line-up in Insenses history.

Can you speak to us about the departure of Magnus ? Can you tell us more about your new bassist, Ola ?

Magnus guit the band to focus on his studies. He is still our best friend so there are no hard feelings about him leaving the band. Ola is a long time friend of us and he is actually a guitarist, but when he heard Magnus had quit the band he wanted to try out on bass because he had been a fan of Insense since we started up, and that`s probably the smartest thing he has ever doneJ He fits perfectly and our live-shows with him are amazing!!!

What are your biggest musical influences ?

So many different things. I`m into all kinds of music; From Grind-core to indie-rock. Tommy and Ola are really into the death metal scene with bands like Obiturary, Decide and Sepultura. Truls are into both prog-metal and extreme metalbands like Messhuggah and Fear Factory.

Talking about your new album called ´Soothing Tortureª. Can you tell us more about this album ?

Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?

It`s recorded by Tommy and we did 13 songs in the “soothing torture” session. The 10 best songs ended up on the album. Hopefully we can release the B-sides compilation some day because they are really good as well!!

How did you proceed for the composition ? Who is responsible for song writing ?

All of us make music. Mostly we start up with a riff on guitar or Truls comes up with a drumbeat. We are arranging everything together, and if any of us don’t like it we don`t use it. It`s a long process to make an Insense song. No room for easy solutions.

What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?

Tommy writes all the lyrics and he is an angry motherfuckerJ It`s really aggressive so it fits the music well I think. I guess it`s personal feelings that most people can relate to.

Who did the artwork for ´Soothing Tortureª ?

What’s your favourite track on this album, and why ?

“Making Up For Lost Time” is my favourite track right now, but It changes all the time. I like it because it`s a hard, fast, angry song with a kind of catchy part in the middle of itJ . That song is good to us live!

What are your favourite bands and all times albums ?

Where to start… hehe. Lets see: Fear Factory, Sepultura, Messuggah, Pantera, Pig Destroyer, Nasum, Machine Head, Death, Slipknot, Metallica, Sick Of It All, Obituary, Napalm Death. And the list goes on and on..

What’s your opinion about the Norwegian and International metal scene ?

I think there are many great bands in the metal scene these days, both here in Norway and worldwide. I really believe that independent labels are releasing the most interesting music these days, Like Black Balloon here in Norway.

Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ?

NO! Nothing strange has ever happened to us J. Secrets stay on the road,, hehehe

What are your projects for the future ?

Yeah. We have 10 new songs and a lot of great ideas for a new album set to release in 06 hopefully. And until then I just want every metalhead in the world to check out “soothing torture” cause I love the album and I truly think its sounds fresh in the metal scene these days. And we are going to play as many shows we can and we’ll make new music.
