It’s a huge slab of groovy, crushing old school death metal !

We recorded the album at the Excess Studios in Holland over a period of 3 weeks. We started with drums, then rhythm guitar, bass, leads and finally vocals ; pretty standard procedure. We worked in shifts, usually there were 2-3 Bullets in the studio at the same time.

All of the songs were written at home and then e-mailed to the rest of the band. We don’t rehearse much so any alterations to the songs were also discussed by mail. Rehearsals are rare with this band, so when we do get together we make sure we all know the songs already so we can practice them as focused as possible.

The lyrics deal with war in general, and the Eastern Front in World War II in particular. Martin finds his inspiration wherever he can find it : books, films, documentaries, etc.

Dan also mixed our promo and he did such a great job it was obvious he’d be mixing our album as well. Apart from that he loves old school death metal as much as we do, so we don’t have to tell him what we should sound like. He also insisted on doing guest vocals on one song because he wanted to appear together with his hero Martin.

I think General Winter is the most "complete" HoB song because it has both the extremely slow, doomy parts as well as the fast pounding. At the moment another favourite is Nachthexen, mainly because of the break in the middle that goes into the tragic lead melody.

I described it for the ad campaign as being run over by a 50 ton Tiger tank, and I guess that’s pretty close … it’s heavy, deadly, dirty and unstoppable !

I have so many favourites I don’t know where to begin ... My favourite band ever (don’t laugh) is Manowar, mainly for the first 2 albums Battle Hymns and Into Glory Ride. Best death metal album is probably Entombed’s Left Hand Path, and if my house was on fire I’d definitely rescue Savatage - Sirens, Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Trouble - Psalm 9 and Slayer - South Of Heaven.

The first HoB gig is next week, so ask me again then, haha ! My first ever gig was at my high school, and it was pretty good for a couple teenagers doing a mix Deep Purple and Motörhead covers and original songs.

We are doing several summer festivals and some clubshows, and we hope to get a good tour offer, preferably a high profile support slot or festival tour so we can reach a lot of people in a relatively short time.

Not sure if it’s either funny or strange, but by the time we got our recording deal we had only rehearsed 4 or 5 times as a complete band …

I am working on a doom metal project together with Rogga from Demiurg, and I’m probably joining Dan on his solo album. Martin and Paul will be doing a new Asphyx album later this year, and Stephan and Paul are hoping to get the new Thanatos album released. Theo’s main project besides HoB for this year is his newborn baby girl …
