Interview Echoes Of Eternity

Can you tell the readers a bit about the band's history ?

Kirk & Brandonwent to high school together and have played together for a long time doing mainly death metal. Duane is from the same town as them and has also played with Kirk. When I was in college studying Recording Arts, Kirk was in my class and we became friends through our love of metal. Brandon knew I was a singer and it was his idea to start this band.

What are your biggest musical influences?

A lot of old school death & thrash metal for the music. For the vocals, I have an extensive list of metal and non-metal vocalists that have inspired me from Enya to Bruce Dickinson!

How would you describe your music ?

We really wanted to do something different than what's already out there now in the female fronted metal genre. We wanted a heavier, more aggressive sound, no-opera style singing, no growling (or beauty and the beast style singing), & no keyboards. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't like these things or bands that incorporate this stuff, I LOVE them!!! It's just that it's been done already, and the metal world doesn't need another copycat band. Through our musical journey we discovered our own style and our own sound, we never tried to force anything and we let the songs unravel themselves.

Can you speak to us about your debut album called " The Forgotten Goddess "
? How did you proceed for the composition ?

The way we compose is like this : Brandon comes up with some riffs, then Kirk & Brandon figure out which riffs go well together and piece together song structures, Duane & I also include our feedback in the structure, once the song structure is in place I come up with vocal patterns that might fit well and the song comes to life.

What are the lyrics talking about and where do you find inspiration ?

A lot of lyrics talk a lot about death and spirituality. For example "Towers Of Silence" is about the death ritual for the Zoroastrians, "Voices In A Dream" is about remembering a loved one that has passed on. "Expressions of Flesh" is about our souls being immortal. The title track "The Forgotten Goddess" is not about death though, it's about the sacred feminine, back when ancient cultures embraced both a male and a female deity.

Who created the artwork ?

Wendell Pendeo of Blackseed Designs, he is incredible and created an art piece for each song which will be in the CD booklet.

Are you involved in any other projects and if so how do they compare to " Echoes Of Eternity " ?

None of us are involved in any other project at the moment.

What are your favourite all time bands and albums?

Oh no I hate this question! I have too many!! But I'll list a few of my fave metal albums:
Judas Priest-Painkiller, Carcass-Necroticism & Heartwork, Dying Fetus-Destroy the Opposition, Iron Maiden-Somewhere in Time, Morbid Angel-Blessed Are the Sick, Dimmu Borgir-Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, I could go on.....but I won't :P

What's your opinion about the international metal scene ?

I don't really know about the rest of the world as I have not been there. But Canada, the US and Europe seem to have a healthy thriving scene.

Do you have any funny or strange stories about the band you can share with
us ?

I can't really think of anything!

What are your projects for the future ? Are there any plans for some gigs ?

We would like to put out another album in the next year and a half or so, we already have ideas for new songs! We also plan to tour extensively in the US & Europe all of this upcoming year!

And finally, can you say some words for my radio show Metal Choc ?

Bonjour chers "metal heads" de la France, j'ai bien hâte de pouvoir jouer en France!!
