Your new album called « Angelwhore » will be released on August 22nd : can you tell us more about this album ? Hails! Yes, "Angelwhore" will be released on the 22th August by Metal Blade (CD), Iron Pegasus (LP) and Mutilation Rec. (LP/CD South America). We’ve recorded 8 new neck-breakers plus outro and a intro. The new songs are still in the same way like the old records, because we don’t like changes, new influences and shit like this. It’s this a typical Desaster album what is the logical answer of "Divine Blasphemies". The only difference to the previous one is that we really took care to give the songs more darkness and power. "Divine Blasphemies" was more that typical "fist in your face" album. But it’s still Desaster ... Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ? We recorded the songs in the same recording studio like before. The positive thing is that "ToxoMusic" is here in our hometown Koblenz, so we had the chance to relax at home after the recording and mixing sessions. It’s a small one, but the owner Wally is an old musician, who really knows how old songs have sound like! He is the singer of one of Germanys most well-known Punk band called Toxoplasma. But the recordings went normal... not really something special. Some beers, many cigarettes and a lot of work. That’s all.... How did you proceed for the composition ? It’s the same way like always. Infernal starts with a riff, I start drumming some shit and out of this we form a song. When this is ready vokills and bass will find the way to the song. We spend many times in the rehearsal room to take the maximum out of the songs. Hopefully people will notice that! Haha... if not... anyway we know how much work it is to create a new song. Most important thing is that the song has to be "bangable" ... you understand? What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ? Most of all lyrics are written by Sataniac. He gets his inspiration from everywhere. His lines are very morbid and evil. Sorry, but I can not say what he’s specially talking about. For me lyrics are not the important part in our music. The guitar riff is much more necessary. I see the vokills more like an instrument. Who created the artwork ? The Angelwhore was created by Mr. Chris Moyen. I think you’ll know him. He’s a French maniac as well! He did y good job and I really like his drawings. He did many good covers in the past! Thanxx mate! What's your favourite track on « Angelwhore » and why ? I have two! The first Is the opener "The Blessed Pestilence" because this song shows all typical sides of our unique music. Fast Guitars, Speed, Blast Beats, Power and Aggression, that’s the way it should be done! The other one is "Havoc" because it’s typical "thrashy" song with some Death Metal elements and in my eyes one of the best middle-parts we’ve ever mate! Haha... How would you describe your music in your own words ? Traditional black thrashing riff metal darkness... ok?! Can you remember your first gig ? How did it go ? The first show with the band for me was in some time in 1995 near Berlin here in Germany. But I can’t remember very well. I was too nervous and much too drunk! Haha... I also helped the band out because their original drummer at this time had not the time to play. So they asked me... We played around 40 minutes and the crowed was really crap. I’ve never seen such a bad audience again... haha. But we had a great time with Olaf and Andy from Impending Doom that weekend. Anyway... shit happens. After that I played 3 more shows with them on a short tour with Occult from Holland before Thorim joined the band shortly to record the first 7" and the debut. After this they asked me again for being a permanent member... so that’s the whole story. What are your favourite bands and all times albums ? Oh, there are a lot! Here we go: Sodom, Kreator, Nasty Savage, Demon, Absu, Pentacle, Darkness, Slayer, Venom, Hellhammer/ Celtic Frost, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Razor, Primordial, Sabbat (both), Ozzy, Destruction, Voivod, Headhunter DC, Evil, Heavy Load, Protector, Twisted Sister, Running Wild, Unleashed, Grave, Gorerotted, Judas Priest... and many more... as you see I like every kind of Metal... There are as well tons of albums like "Obsessed by cruelty", "Pleasure to kill", "Show no mercy", "Executioner’s Song", "The unexpected guest", "Black Metal", "Agent Orange", "Sign of the hammer", "Death Squad", "Headless Cross"... too many to write them down here. If you like Heavy Metal you have to like many of bands and records! Haha... What’s your opinion about the international metal scene ? If you mean nowadays I think there are
still many good bands outside who really have a good image or attitude
and released great records. The only thing I really hate for myself is
this mixing of genres. Metal has to be METAL and not mixed with other
shit! Since the time of internet the community comes closer. But the www
is also a place for many stupid idiots and non- metalfans. You played with a lot of bands like Behemoth, Enthroned … What are your best memories ? There are many great Memories, like my first tour (only 3 days) with Occult in 1995, or the tour with Behemoth in 1997, where we had a lot of fun with the Polish and the Swedish (Svartsyn). Many Open Airs were great, the 2 tours with Zemial was fun as well and the last we did in March with Delirious through Serbia, Croatia and so on was a great killer. But one of my best memories was the trip to Brazil. This was our first time in South America and we had a lot of fun. The show wasn’t that good for us... we played many mistakes, but the whole trip and the people there were great! Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ? We’ll go in October again to South America to play some shows in Brazil, Peru and Colombia. After that we’ll have some single shows... that’s all. Maybe in 2007 we’ll play some short tours, because after the long tour with Holy Moses and Fatal Embrace we think to play all night, 6 days a week isn’t good for a band. You really loose the mystic of a gig, you know? We don’t play shows to get money, we play shows because we like to be in touch with the audience and all around this. If it become normal to go on stage you lost all your energy before the gig. Ah, a live show has to be something special for the musicians and the audience! Can you tell us an anecdote which particularly marked your career ? There is no career. Or better I feel not like that! I just want to make music and having some fun, meet other maniacs and hail the cult of Heavy Metal, forever and in eternity! What are your projects for the future ? On the 20th August we’ll have our Release Party together with Pentacle, Metal Inquisitor and Nocturnal in Wermelskirchen/ Germany. We are waiting for an "Asian-release only" which is a Split CD/Tape with our friends SABBAT from Japan. Both bands gave some live songs... Beside some single gigs in and around Germany we have our 1st South American Tour which includes 7 shows in Brazil, 1 in Peru and 2 in Colombia. And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show called Metal Choc ? Good luck with that! Keep the flame of true Heavy Metal burning and thanxx for the interview. Maybe one day we’ll come to France and show you how a typical total Desaster looks like!
