Can you tell the readers a bit about the band's
history ?
KIMMO: We’ve known each other for a very long time, I’ve known Janne and
Olli since we were little kids. Since our early teens we’ve always
played music and through a couple of changes over the years we ended up
with this lineup.
JANNE: We've played together for a long time, but we really started
taking this band seriously sometime around 2003, after which we got the
record deals and stuff like that. Our first album came out in Finland
two years ago, and Sleepwalkers, our second album came out now.
Can you speak to us about your new album called "Sleepwalkers" ?
JANNE: We started writing new material pretty much right after our debut
came out. So in that sense it took a long time, we wrote and demoed a
bigt bunch of songs for more than a year. The recording itself was
pretty easy and done quickly, in less than two months in the autumn of
2006. We worked with great producers Jens Bogren and Miitri Aaltonen, in
Sweden and Finland respectively, and it was an enjoyable experience...
our first album was recorded and produced by ourselves and it can really
be a pain in the ass to do that, sometimes.
We set out to come up with a more band-oriented album than our debut and
I think we succeeded in that. The songs themselves are a compilation of
mixed emotions from being frustrated and devoid of hope to feeling
content and in love with your life.
Who is responsible for song writing ?
How did you proceed for the composition ?
KIMMO: We all participate in that. Sometimes one of us writes a whole
song with music & lyrics, sometimes we come up with song by jamming in
the practice pad. It varies a lot.
Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?
KIMMO: The sessions went pretty easily, we had a good producer working
with us, which
made the experience a lot more enjoyable. Recording an album is a
rollercoaster of emotions,
from being tired and frustrated to being extremely happy.
What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?
JANNE: We just write about our lives and the world around us. We're not
storytellers but we write about the way we feel the way we like. Three
minute poetry, mostly based on true stories...
What are your favourite songs out of this album? And what makes them so
special for you ?
KIMMO: Favourite songs change over time, at the moment I’d pick
Dissonance Fading and
The Absolute from the album. They sound original.
JANNE: I'd pick the same two songs as well. They're both great to play
live, highlights of our set every time.
Which are the artists who influenced you or whom you appreciate
particularly ?
JANNE: Guns N' Roses and Metallica for inspiring us to pick up our
instruments in the first place and guys like Neil Young for the
inspiration to keep going.
What's your opinion about the international metal scene ?
JANNE: I like many heavy bands like Neurosis, Machine Head, Slayer, Down
and Black Sabbath, but I'm not into scenes or genres as such. There's
some good things and a whole lot of crap in any genre.
Do you have any funny or strange stories about the band you can share
with us ?
JANNE: There's a whole lot of stupid shit we've pulled off along the
years, and I'd like to advice you guys to check out our Myspace blog (blog.myspace.com/dayeleven)for
those. We've been pretty honest about any ups and downs we've had...
Are there any plans for an upcoming tour ?
JANNE: Not at the moment but let's see what happens. We'd like to get to
play in Europe again before we settle down to make our next album but it
depends on a lot of things... so check back later.
What are your projects for the future ?
KIMMO: We’re starting write songs for the next album, and play a couple
of shows here in Finland. Putting together the album will take most of
our time for the next months… or next year, we’ll see.

JANNE: Stay sane and don't "choc'e" on your metal, har har.
